Tiziano: Flora, Venus of Urbino, Sixtus IV, Madonna and Child in the Ufizzi Gallery in Florence

The slightly naked young woman makes the sign of the cross with two fingers of her left hand, a symbol indicating that she will soon lose her virginity.

Venus of Urbino In her right hand, where we can see an engagement ring, she holds a bouquet of flowers, a sign of conjugal love.

Eleonora Gonzaga della Rovere This painting has given rise to several interpretations. According to Auguste Gentili, this distinctly erotic painting was intended as an instructional model of sensuality for the young Giulia Varano, who was married at the age of 13 to Guidubaldo II Della Rovere, the painting's owner.

Painting - Oil on Canvas (114 x 103 cm) 1536-1538This is a portrait of the Duchess of Urbino, Eleonora Gonzaga, mother of Guidubaldo, owner of the previous painting depicting the Venus of Urbino.
The clock symbolises the passage of time, while the noble character of the Duchess is clearly expressed in this painting.
